11:47 pm - Advent Calendar Craft I'm making an advent calendar/activity planning calendar for us...It's a lot of work but I am very happy with it so far.
As a background: 5+ years ago I was engaged and planning our wedding and I really wanted to do an envelope guest book (from Martha Stewart)...we got the book and the envelopes and cards and had the cards at the wedding for people to fill out...but I never assembled it.
So this year I was wanting to plan things for each day this December so that the kids and I had things to look forward to while counting down to Christmas...and I decided to just put it all in Google Calendar (which is where it currently is) but then while I was looking around for Christmas inspiration and still on my current Red-and-White Christmas kick I got linked to this Advent Calendar Countdown and my creativity kicked it. You know I would just as soon buy the things I want if someone made them just like I imagine them, but they rarely do :-p. I decided to make a little book with pages full of envelopes counting from 1-24 with notes inside saying what was planned for each day as we counted down. It isn't finished yet, but Dave and I worked on it some over the weekend and Ben and I worked on it yesterday morning. Lori said I should post about it here and not just on FaceBook :-p.

12:38 pm - eyes There was a question about eye color in P101 so I felt the need to take some pictures of my eyes and Ben's
( big eyes! )
I tend to describe my eye color as a small gray ring surrounded by a small yellow sunburst and mostly blue
Dave has a similar set up with a larger gray ring (I'll try to make him take a picture tonight) and some yellow as well EDIT: picture added. The larger gray ring in Ben's eyes definitely comes from Dave, but he and I have very similar colorations, no?
Both Ben and Tim have the gray ring but neither have any yellow in their eyes at this point. I describe Ben's as a gray ring surrounded by a small light gray sunburst and mostly blue. Ben will sit for pictures (even if he can't hold his eye open when there is a flash ;p) and Tim won't so no close up for him...I describe his as a small gray ring surrounded by a large very light gray sunburst and some blue.
And you can see that neither of my boys got my strawberry blond eyelashes :-p

05:07 pm Dave got in from his trip about 10:30 last night...it is so good to have him home. The boys were thrilled to see him (they were tired but I let them wait up till he got home) and you can bet I was too. Ben tried to come cuddle with us in the middle of the night but we helped him back to bed...he was back before I got up in the morning though ;p. He hasn't co-slept for a long time but I think he was just really wanting to be with mommy and daddy together now that he is back.
I'm a bit stressed out today from lack of sleep and plan on doing some solo shopping this evening while Dave and the kids have father-sons bonding time.

05:26 pm - In which I hypocriticaly judge people for judging.... I think that peopleofwalmart.com is one of the tackiest websites I have ever seen...seriously, taking pictures of people to post on the internet and make fun of them? Can you get any less classy than that?

04:48 pm OK, I'm making these for Christmas...too cute and just right for what I was hoping for.
While looking through catalogs, Ben pointed this out to me and asked what it was, and I told him a 'hideaway' and he said he wanted a hideaway...but in black. I said how about black with stars? and he said sure.
I know I've seen instructions to make one using a hulahoop in a magazine I have...just need to find it. I hope he loves it!

04:16 pm I realized I've posted examples of stuff that Ben likes or that I like for him, but nothing for Tim, who has both a birthday and Christmas coming up. Poor kid is likely to get the short end of the stick, eh?
SO...
He loved the tunnel at my mom's house and in kids IKEA:

He loves drumming and banging on things and we don't own any of this kind of toy:

He's a lot bigger than his brother was at this age (he wears mostly 18m for the torso and 12m in pants) so we'll likely be getting him some larger diapers :-p
He and Ben play with a lot of toys together and he's got all of Ben's baby toys but I'd like to get some stuff just for him so I'm open to suggestions!

01:23 pm Looking for my birth certificate I just found "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" by Kuhn in the guest room....I was just thinking about it this morning while looking at this flowchart that doesn't seem to understand how science works...I think it will go on my reading list this week as it's been a couple years since I read it.

10:14 am - Update on the ill boys We took Tim to the Dr. yesterday since it's been a month since we took both boys and they've both been feeling less than well that entire month. Tim had been pawing his ears so I was worried his had progressed to an ear infection. Dr. Stephens said there was fluid in both his ears but not a full blown infection, but after a month of letting Tim try to fight it on his own he's willing to give ABX a chance and see if it helps if that is what we want. (he also said that if Tim zips back to 100% after a couple days on the ABX and Ben is still plugging along with the congestion and coughing then we can call him and he'll call in a prescription for Ben too). I appreciate that he doesn't push ABX, but yeah, I'm ready to give them a go in this case even though they're not absolutely needed at this point. He also pointed out that Tim's 5th tooth was just about through (and it broke through this morning) which could account for some of the miserableness and elevated temps.
My throat still hurts and the coughing is annoying, but I'll live.
Dave is currently on his way to the airport and is supposed to be flying out in 90 min. I hope he has a great time in Italy but I'll really miss him :(.

05:53 pm Dave needs to be in Italy on the 12th and 13th (next Thursday and Friday)...because the company waited so long to buy tickets he will now be gone from Tuesday the 10th all the way through Sunday the 15th. Grrr. Anyone want to help me so that I'm not home alone with 2 boys and no adult interaction for 6 days straight?

09:28 am Dave worked until 9 last night. Sucky, no? So we didn't get to go to the grocery store and get food for people hopefully coming over today, but who knows if anyone is actually coming...I've got 6 maybes. This means that Dave will have to go to the store at lunch time and then bring me the food so that I can have it ready for tonight. And the house still isn't clean, but it's hard to be motivated when I still don't know if a single person is actually going to come. Also Ben spiked a random fever in the middle of the night--came and climbed into bed with us saying he didn't feel good and when I noticed how warm he was I got up and got the thermometer out--100.6 under his arm. He's still sleeping right now, we'll see how he feels when he wakes up, if we even want to have people over tonight.
